Thousands of kids finish school hating Mathematics. Failing in Math branded you a kid with low intelligence. In fact for many math classes have been nothing short of traumatic. The reason isn’t far to seek: It’s the way the subject is taught, dry and uninteresting. But it can be fun, say experts.

Most of the students find mathematics the toughest subject. But if a hard work teacher puts his efforts wholeheartedly in his subject, students can begin to see a bright future and show a keen intrest in those head - spinning numbers and graphs. They will no more find mathematics a scary subject.
Walk into the Government High School in Nada village of Belthangady taluk and you will know why Math can be fun. Understanding Pytha- gorean Theorem, Abel’s theorem and solving mathematical problems has never been simpler.

Students of Class 8,9,and 10 in Government High School have a ‘Maths World’ created by their mathematics teacher, Yakub S. Maths World is a concept of special mathematics lab with all modern facilities including Eyeris interactive devices, projector, display ,LED TV, maths models, tools, garden and every material required to make Maths simple for high school students.

Students can find solutions to all their mathematical problems in one room that is powered with solar electricity, a first of its kind among government schools in the state.

Maths World in our school provides modern facilities for students to learn the subject through activities. Finding a solution to a        problem through an activity makes learnin

Math simpler. We have designed Maths World in such a way that it should attract children and develop their interest further in the subject. The lab has materials, tools, electronic, electrical equipment and books required for making learning an experience through activities. In addition, audio/visual teaching materials on Eyeris device help students memorize Math concepts without difficulty.
Maths World has 60 chairs, tables and other furniture for students and teachers. The Maths Garden, which is being developed, will help students learn mathematical symbols and shapes in a novel way.

What is the purpose of a mathematics laboratory?
v To provide readily accessible rich manipulative materials.
v To develop physical involvement in order to add new ideas to their cognitive
         structure.
v To make children experience with real ¨C world embodiments  of mathematical ideas
v To emphasis on learning by doing.
v To provide children with opportunities to discover and understand mathematical
Concept through their active involvement in solving problems
v To make children to think, to look for patterns and ask questions.
v To develop an attitude of inquiry.

    Why it is required

Now a days it is essential to teach mathematics in using modern techniques. Otherwise our students especially who are in rural area unable to compete in the fast growing modern world. Keeping all these things in mind I dreamed to make this project. Most of the classes I want to use multimedia presentation. For the mathematics class students come to the lab and the classes will commence there. They should learn by doing. It is the concept of NCF. These days State Government introduced CBSC syllabus to school. Students are finding difficult to understand the subject. To overcome this difficulty our lab is very need full for them. It is also a process and a procedure for teaching and learning mathematics. The laboratory approach allows pupils to set up mathematical experiments for the purpose of discovering some mathematical principle, pattern, or process. Even teachers can be a part of the process, group discussions, and individual projects, a mathematics laboratory is activity-centered; the child is placed in problem solving situation and through self-exploration and discovery, he or she provides a solution based on his or her experience, needs, and interests.
Maths Lab is a state-of-art mathematics laboratory for schools. It offers Multiple Teaching and Learning Aids as well as a complete theme based ambience which helps students to visualize and feel mathematics. Learning aids comprise of Technology Applications, Videos, Manipulative, Measuring Instruments, Tables, and Charts etc. A mathematics theme based ambience is created complete with tables, chairs, posters, floor tiles etc. Based on the three pillars of ‘Imagination, Investigation and Interaction’, it provides an opportunity to students to understand, internalize, discover and verify the basic mathematical and geometrical concepts through concrete objects and situations.
The laboratory also encourages the students to think, discuss amongst themselves as well as with the teacher, and assimilate concepts. Math Lab is the brain child of two pioneers in the field of education: In line with the mission of making mathematics interesting, CBSE has issued directives to all schools following the CBSE curriculum, to install a math lab for promoting the subject. Additionally, CBSE has directed that 20% of the marks will be allocated to each student from the lab assessments, towards the final marks. Math Lab is completely structured on NCERT guidelines which emphasize discovery, enrichment and verification of facts, reinforcement and demonstration of concepts

    How it will be

Mathematics Laboratory is a place where students can learn and explore mathematical concepts and verify mathematical facts and theorems through a variety of activities using different materials. These activities may be carried out by the teacher or the student to explore, to learn, to stimulate interest and develop favorable attitude towards mathematics

Multimedia Content- Teaching-learning material based on multimedia content provided for activities. Teachers can easily explain and demonstrate many abstract concepts
The Mathematics Laboratory is a place, rich in manipulative material, to which children have ready access to handle them, perform mathematical experiments, play mathematical games, solve mathematical puzzles and become involved in other activities. An integral part of the mathematics laboratory is the manipulation of objects. Through manipulating concrete material, the child is better able to bridge the gap between the real and the abstract world.

    What are manipulative materials?
Manipulative material are objects or things that the pupil is able to feel, touch, handle, and move. They may be real objects which have social application in our everyday affairs, or they may be objects which are used to represent an idea.
Manipulative material appeal to several senses and are characterized by a physical involvement of pupils in an active learning situation. Hence, not all teaching aids or instructional materials are manipulative materials
Manipulative materials provide tools for problem solving. When a child has an aid to solve problem that is always available in the mathematics laboratory, his self-confidence is increased, because he does not need to depend on the fallibility of this memory.

Unorganized way of using manipulative materials fails to attain important goals of mathematics instructions. Children should not learn merely to manipulate objects. Children should use this manipulation of objects as a means of learning important mathematical process, principles, and skills.
Only when manipulative materials help children understand the abstract nature of mathematics and assist them in becoming more efficient problem solvers, is the use of manipulative materials justified.

    About
